Tasty BitsAs promised, we’re showing you some of the works installed during the 2007 edition of that mad, mad, mad international art fair, CIRCA, as part of the arty festivities at Casa Candela. Segunda/Tercera Planta was organized by Abdiel Segarra and Tony Cruz, with the help of Casa Candela owner Pablo Rodríguez. Beginning with the bed with dirty sheets, the images show, in order, works by Jesús Bubu Negrón, Kristin Servia, Rosamarie Perea Ruiz, Joel Yoyo Rodríguez, Chemi Rosado, and three shots of mass fun lead by Héctor Madera- González. To the left below, get fried like an alcapurria in Martin Albarran’s chamber, and to the right, get locked out of your home—if you happen to be a pigeon—by Filipo Tirado. This is but a small sampling of what was there. To begin at the beginning of our CIRCA 2007 coverage, click on the magic blue word and try to follow our twisted semi-logic. Odds and ends: In our haste to cover the CIRCA waterfront, we somehow lost track of Efren Candelaria’s heroic campout drawing marathon at La Casa del Arte, which resulted in the astonishing installation pictured below, Y . . . Los (hilos). This is one of those artworks that you wish would be around forever, a monument to a special kind of artistic fortitude. But alas, art galleries are not set up to do that sort of thing, and La Casa scheduled an exhibition “closing” for April 12th, meaning doomsday for Candelaria’s work. If you’re muy listo, you might prevail on gallery owner Guillermo Rodríguez to give you a first-hand peek before the erasing begins. Call today: 787-792-7373, or whip off an email. We’re also told there is a big art hoo-hah that will rival CIRCA 2007 for celebrity curators, big-spending coleccionistas, and overall glitter. There will be scads of regrettable speeches and much eating of guinea pig. True fact. If we’re not back in two weeks, please throw a wake in our honor with lots of incoherent but ribald toasting and boogalooing until dawn. Meantime, visit Rotunds past by clicking the link below. CIRCA begins, here. |
